Matthews House Hospice breaks ground!

We’re excited to announce that construction is underway on the newest Matthews House Hospice; a special project we’ve been working on for the last few years. Bailey Designs was given the honour of designing this thirty-thousand-square-foot, ten-bed hospice and palliative care facility on Wellington Street in Alliston.

Comfort in a home-like setting is a key part of the design. In giving it a west coast flare, the new hospice will be cozy and not at all like an institution. The exterior design features large, landscaped gardens, a gazebo, large windows, interesting rooflines and lots of parking.

The feeling of home from the exterior will continue inside with a large kitchen, two fireplaces for gathering, built-in window seats that will double as guest beds, and plenty of comfortable spaces for families.

Also, with the help of artist Kelly Low from Kelly Low Glass, we’ve designed a beautiful glass healing garden. Each glass flower is made by Kelly and can be donated by family and friends.

The home will house the community hospice palliative care team, day programs, counselling, libraries, family and staff resource rooms, and educational facilities for the community.

We want to thank Marv Chantler, vice president of Matthews House for his support on this project. We’ve worked on a number of projects with Marv and we’re honoured that Matthews House Hospice chose Bailey Designs to be a part of this great team.

According to Marv, more than one million dollars per year is needed to sustain the various services offered by Matthews House Hospice, and they couldn’t provide the care they do without the support they receive from the community. Cash donations are always appreciated. They also rely heavily on volunteers to help in a number of ways from in-home client visits, to office administration and gardening.
